Abduction / Kidnapping

A high-stakes plot device where a character is forcibly taken, setting the stage for intense action, suspense, and emotional turmoil. This trope often leads to dangerous rescues, psychological manipulation, or even Stockholm Syndrome dynamics in romance. It can be used in dark romance, fantasy, and thrillers, whether the abductor is a villain, a morally gray antihero, or someone with hidden motives. The trope fuels forbidden romance, revenge plots, and power struggles.

📖 Book Example: The Wrath & the Dawn by Renée Ahdieh – A retelling of One Thousand and One Nights where Shahrzad volunteers to be the bride of a murderous king to uncover his secrets.
